"Robert Rauschenberg was a tireless experimenter who furthered the notion, started with Marcel Duchamp, that anything could be art. In 1953 he instructed his friend to drive his Model A Ford through a puddle of black paint and over twenty sheets of paper which he glued together creating Automobile Tire Print. It is many things at once: a monoprint, a ready-made, a process piece, a record of an event, and even a sarcastic joke questioning what could be art.
Like Rauschenberg, I have always searched for different ways to create art and the idea of what a print, drawing or painting can be; I have used hand cut stencils with spray paint to create poster editions, I have used store bought peg board and metal radiator covers with spray paint to make abstract compositions, I have covered inflatable toys, a temporal object, with plaster bandage to create permanent sculptures, and here I have used the bottom of a pair of Kenzo sneakers as a block print. I rolled ink onto the sneaker sole and walked across multiple pieces of paper creating a print and a multiple in the same way that Rauschenberg made his tire print. It is interesting to look at and humorous at the same time. It is a print, a ready-made, a record and a work of art just like Automobile Tire Print."
