The 18th Amendment to the Constitution, banning the manufacture, sale and distribution of alcohol, came into force on 17 January 1920. It caused an explosion in new court cases and greatly boosted the power of organized crime. For me, however, it was the design of this old sign that was appealing. I love the colours and the structure and the appeal for the 18th Amendment to be repealed for the sake of liberty and prosperity. The Act was finally repealed in 1933, the only instance in US history that a constitutional amendment has been repealed in its entirety.
