Portrait of a King

from Under the Influence

Eleanor Ryan participated in the Under the Influence show in Fall 2016 at Village West.

"As a native New Yorker, I spent many rainy days as a child wandering the Metropolitan Museum. On a family trip to St. Petersburg I was struck by the intensity of colors in the unfiltered light of the Hermitage. I am fond of the masters, and was particularly moved to tears by Van Gogh's self portrait. I also always have enjoyed finding obscure pieces in large museums that speak to me. Aside from my experiences with classical art, I create mostly digital media: Short films, animated pieces, digital paintings. I am influenced by Hayao Miyazaki and Natasha Allegri. I have taken drawing and painting at school, and regularly participate in figure drawing evenings at the Society of Illustrators, a group founded by my great-great-uncle, James Montgomery Flagg."
