"My painting, Last Chance Cookie, is part of an ongoing
series of still life paintings that I've been working on for the past 3 years.
I have many, many
influences when I work, but from an early age, I have always felt inspired by and connected to
Cézanne's still life paintings. His ability to carve out space within a deeply structured
composition, to use color, light and surface quality in paint, all contribute -- and simple objects
on a table appear to communicate deeper meanings. Allowing inconsistencies in his perception to
remain in the final image adds to the power of the world he creates within the painting."
It's incredibly exciting and inspiring to me when I look at his still life paintings.
They are like companions in my life.
