Let's be clear, won't close my eyes David Rios Ferreira carbon monoprint, ink and gouache on paper, 20" x 26.5"; $925 Exhibited at Village West in Slow Art Fall 2019 |
In my work, coloring books and animation, historical references, and other appropriated images become my "found objects."
Familiar characters like Astro Boy, Pinocchio and Peter Pan are deconstructed and reinterpreted to become temporal beings and transmitters of imagined histories.
These beings, and the space they inhabit furnish an in-between reality, a reality—as explored in Let's be clear, won't close my eyes -- that signifies how the body both bears and transforms historical memory.
