Alex Pergament participated in the Under the Influence show in Fall 2016 at Village West.
Alex Pergament (b. Odessa, Ukraine) is a Jersey-City based multimedia artist focusing on user-interaction-based
wooden books and installations. He is interested in making his process of creation transparent,
challenging the taboo that art is not to be touched or changed by viewers, and rewarding viewers
with moments of personal discovery earned through interaction.
Alex studied genetics and microbiology, and philosophy at Rutgers University, and earned a J.D.
with high honors from George Washington University Law School. Alex was awarded three art grants
from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and a Blueprint Fellowship from COJECO.
Alex is the Director/Producer of Helga and Carl, a mobile library installation of interactive artists' books, made in collaboration with 20 Jersey City and New York City visual artists, which will be on tour in early 2018.
