from Under the Influence

Chizu Omori participated in the Under the Influence show in Fall 2016 at Village West.

Originally from Kagawa Japan, Chizu Omori came to NYC in 1999 to discover herself. What she discovered was a love of art and specifically, ceramics. After studying at Greenwich House Pottery in the West Village, she jumped at the opportunity to work in a cooperative studio in Brooklyn.

Her popular handmade tableware sold privately, as well as in several boutiques in Soho and Tribeca. In 2004 she moved back to Japan to teach and continue making pottery.

Recently she found a new passion for "encaustic painting". The process of melting pigmented wax with heat and applying it to a surface reminds her of the glazing process in her ceramic work.

Sharing an art studio with her husband at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, they divide their time between Japan, New York, and Hawaii.
