Standing Female Nude with Crossed Arms (1910) Egon Schiele Inspiration piece for Marie Gagnon for the Under the Influence show, Fall 2016 |
"I find Egon Schiele's figures to be quite beautiful in their awkwardness and vulnerability. Many years ago, in an attempt to feel some connection, I had worked quite a few paintings that began with laying down line and loosely copying Schiele's figures.
This past year has been filled with awkwardness and discomfort. In late spring, I grabbed an old canvas and gave a nod to Schiele as I intentionally retained some of the history of the original painting, knowing that we carry our past into our evolution. And there can be an elegance in our vulnerable spaces."
