Coney Island: Winter Boardwalk
Ellen Fisch
photography assemblage, framed in pieces of boardwalk, 22.5" x 22.5" x 1";  $3700
Exhibited at Village West in The Four Seasons show, Spring/Summer 2017

"Iconic Coney Island is wonderful in Winter. Memories of my childhood are evident in all I see there and in Winter the ocean, sky and beach promote creative energy for me as a photographer.

Personally, the season of Winter seems to be more inspiring with the feel of cold sea spray and the screeching gulls in Coney Island than many other places. This photograph of snow on the boardwalk was taken shortly after a winter storm during which 8" of snow fell on the City. The lone figures of the gull and the man represent a season of solitude: Winter.

I had my photograph of the snowy Coney Island boardwalk printed on polished aluminum because there is a cool glow that adds to the winterscape. Before Hurricane Sandy I was fortunate enough to buy some boardwalk slats that I had made into frames. The black and white photograph is complemented by the rough hewn boardwalk wood and brings the photographed boardwalk to life. The Belgium linen backing on which the photograph is floated has a slightly warm feeling of sand.

This Winter Photograph is the entire piece, including the frame because it represents the place and the season."
