Ceci n'est pas une brioche
Michael Endy
photograph, 34" x 24";  $400
Exhibited at Village West in Ancien Régime: the pre-revolutionary world, Fall 2018

"This is a sarcastic response - from a peasant's POV - to Marie Antoinette's infamous "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche," that juxtaposes the day's meager catch with an obviously fake (but totally cool) Louis XVI-style frame as revolution stirred in the streets.

And the direct reference to Marcel Duchamp speaks to the Avant-Garde movement and revolution in the arts."
