Catherine of Braganza (c.1660)
Theodorus van der Stoop
Inspiration piece for Daniel C. Boyer for the
Under the Influence show,
Fall 2016

"I was inspired by Catherine of Braganza, and the portrait of her by Theodorus van der Stoop, and wanted to do a 'copy' of it -- similar to the way Joan Miró created his "Dutch Interiors" series, re-interpreting the Dutch masters.

It always fascinated me, this approach in which one makes a copy of a painting, but also keeps a high degree of originality. And I was fascinated by the beauty of van der Stoop's work."
